Phacelia tanacetifolia (Fiddleneck), Scorpion Weed, Purple Tansy, Lacy Phacelia, Fernleaf Fiddleneck

I was really surprised when I saw a bumble bee more attracted to a weed that is growing in between our colourful blooming flowers on the balcony. This weed has these unusual spikes of fragrant lavender-blue flowers. I become curious and search for this weed’s identity.

Finding out about the identity of that weed made me more interested and search for more information about it.

After learning amazing fact about Fiddelneck I realize how important this weed is , not only, it is a high-

biomass plant that grows

 quickly but

It is a weed suppressor as

well and as a nitrogen holder.

Its bright purple blossoms

are especially attractive to

bees, butterflies, ladybugs and other helpful

insects because of the nectar .

Farmers uses it as Green manure for soil

 improvement.

This plant can be dug into soil as a soil improver,

making it ideal for use in a wildlife or organic garden.

Because the plant grows

quickly, it provides

immediate groundcover and helps to reduce weeds.

★ Low maintenance and highly disease and pest free,

This plant is also drought tolerant. An excellent choice for mixed borders, cottage gardens, city gardens, wildlife gardens or prairie gardens.

Great as fresh cut fragrant flowers with its unusual and attractive blooms, strong stems, and long vase life (up to 5 days).

Fiddleneck is perfect for creating biodiversity on your garden, I started mine and I’m so excited to see more result.

I saw this yellow lady bird/ beetle crawling along our balcony rail.
