The article I read about is in Dutch language. But have it translated in english version.
ALKMAAR – It is busy at Hortus Alkmaar. Within a few weeks, the sales of the Artemisia Annua plant, also known as Summer wormwood, have increased significantly.
This is due to a statement by the President of Madagascar. He claims to have made herbal teas that would help against the coronavirus.
“People from all over the world call us to ask if we can deliver this. We now sell 25 bags of seeds per day instead of three bags per week”, says Erik ten Winkel, employee at the Hortus. “We really thought: what’s going on here? We’ll be half stock in two weeks.”
The Summer wormwood plant, or ‘qing hao’, is a fern-like plant with bright yellow flowers. This plant has been used for a long time in China as an anti-malarial with a fever-reducing effect. The plant does not grow in the wild and that is why these plants are at the Hortus. Buyers of the seeds use this to grow their own plants and then try to make herbal teas out of it, hoping that it works against the corona virus.
